UPDATE (May 11th 2009): Gro made it last year as #82. This year she jumped to #10 on AfterEllen’s top 100 2009! Check it out!

So Gro Hammerseng made it to the AfterEllen Hot 100 2008 List this year. Many people don’t know who she is, but as lesbians, we should all get to know her a little. Why? 3 reasons: she is gorgeous, out and proud!
Here is a little bit more about her:
Gro Hammerseng (born April 10, 1980 in Gjøvik) is a Norwegian handball player. She is currently the captain of the Norway women’s national handball team, and plays club handball for Danish club Ikast-Bording.
She made her national team debut in 2000. She has led Norway to two consecutive victories in the European Women’s Handball Championship, in 2004 and 2006, being voted the tournament’s most valuable player both times. As of 30 March 2008, she has played 135 games for Norway, scoring 540 goals.[1]
She is in a long-term relationship with fellow Ikast and Norway player Katja Nyberg.[2]
In the lead-up to the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics Hammerseng has joined other Norwegian athletes in an Amnesty International campaign for human rights in the People’s Republic of China.[3]

Let’s not forget that a lots of Gro Fan were and still are handball fan first. I like Gro as a player and as a person. But that she’s gay or not doesn’t matter to me. She is who she is and you really have to see her play. And you will understand who she is, not just a pretty face…

This post was in relation to AfterEllen.com Hot 100 2008 where she is #82 so that is why this post is regarding her being a pretty girl and gay!!
That being said, I live in Denmark, I love handball and she is a great player and I’ve seen her play many times, so I also know how good she is.
Finally, from a lesbian point of view, it is undeniable that it’s great that such an athlete is out and proud.

Well I know that the post was in relation to her place in the top 100 on AE. I was just saying that she is so much more than that. That all. And yes she easy on the eyes. Sorry for my english but well I’m french, hard to really explain what I wanted to say. No offence.

I think they seem to have lots of fun and if they dont hurt anyone(mind you) i dont see the harm with such a cute union, i cannot ,currently, tell if it is dangerous.

hey! I’ve arrived here from a mail of Panteres Grogues, the club which has organizated this 2008 EuroGames in Barcelona (Spain). And looking the women who has been out in the Olympics Games, I’ve arrived here!
I’m agree: this two women are very cool, and they seem to be very well together!
I’ve seen that you are living with your girlfriend too, oh! how find! I’m 22, and I live at my parents home yet… but I’m find with it too.

les pays scandinaves sont réputés être plus en “avance” pour l’acceptation des couples gays que la France (par exemple!)
peux tu le confirmer?
je suis une fan du hand, et de ces deux merveilleuses joueuses et femmes, comment sont elles perçues au danemark…sont elles médiatisées?

I discovered Gro at The European Championships held in Romania in 2oo0. I like handball very much and she is great at it. I watched her through the years and I know now that she came out. I saw that she is very much in love with Katja Nyberg, they are looking cute together. I hope someday i will see her again in my country. Best wishes for a great girl!

I just discovered Gro and Katja by accident recently on You Tube and I could not stop reading about them. I think the attraction on my part is that they are in sports..very real coupe.. and certainly very HOT! They look so good together. I hope their story continues for good…
